This book covers welfare and production issues associated with beak-trimming in poultry and reasons for it, it's history and new methods under development. Its focus is welfare issues associated with the practice. Ethics of beak-trimming and cannibalism are assessed. Beak anatomy, acute and chronic pain and the physiological changes in the bird are examined. Other areas include evaluation of production, egg quality and health of birds relative to the severity and method of beak-trimming.
