Launched in 1993 using a process designed by Malt Master David Stewart in 1982, now known commonly known as 'wood finishing', The Balvenie DoubleWood whisky spends at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks. First, to soften the liquid and infuse a delicate character to the whisky, it’s held in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads. It’s then moved to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks to add additional depth and a fullness of flavour before concluding its journey by being married in large tuns for a final 3-4 months. The result is a harmonious, rich, and flavourful spirit with sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, honey and vanilla layers.
