LOCTITE 542 - Thread sealant for fine threads and small screw connections LOCTITE's Thread sealant is medium strength and can be used with fine thread connections on hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The medium strength adhesive seals and secures at the same time: it fills the gaps in material-locking connections and provides an immediate sealing effect against low pressures. This prevents threads from becoming loose or leaking due to shocks or vibrations. Although the Thread sealant is liquid, the thixotropic properties prevent adhesive migration for ease of application. The seal is suitable for all metal threads and for smaller screwed connections and is resistant to petrol, oil, coolants and hydraulic fluids. To use, clean all surfaces with LOCTITE SF 7063 cleaner and allow to dry. In case of inactive metal surfaces or too slow curing speed, spray parts with a LOCTITE activator (7471, 7649). Apply the adhesive 360° in a ring on the end of the male thread, leaving the first thread free. Spread the solution down to the top of the thread to fill the gaps well. For larger threads and gaps, adjust the quantity accordingly whilst also applying the product 360° in a ring on the female thread. Screw-in pipe threads as usual and tighten with a tool until alignment is correct. With properly tightened connections, an immediate sealing effect against low pressures is achieved. For maximum pressure and solvent resistance, allow the product to cure for at least 24 hours.
