LOCTITE 638 - universally applicable joining adhesive LOCTITE's 638 adhesive is suitable for securing shaft hub joints, especially cylindrical joint parts with narrow bond gaps approaching 0.25 mm. For secure connections, the metal adhesive is high-strength and dries quickly in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces: This prevents joints from coming loose on their own or leaks from vibration or impact. The heat resistant adhesive can be used for both active metals and passive ones such as stainless steel. As a universal adhesive, the metal adhesive is heat resistant (-55°C to +180°C) and tolerates contact with various oils, ideal for gearboxes or engines. To use, clean all surfaces with LOCTITE SF 7063 cleaner. Curing of the screw adhesive can be accelerated with LOCTITE SF7649 activator. For sliding fits, apply the adhesive in a ring on the outside of the front edge of the shaft and on the inside of the hub and rotate parts against each other when joining. For press fits, apply the adhesive evenly to both joining surfaces and join parts quickly. For shrink fits, apply the adhesive as an even, continuous layer. If the hub is heated for assembly, the adhesive must be applied to the shaft. If the shaft is cooled for assembly, the hub should be coated. When heating and cooling at the same time, the adhesive must be applied to the cooled part. Avoid condensation on the cooled parts. Do not move the parts until hand strength is achieved.
