Silk Road: The Study of Drama Culture is the translated edition of the Chinese academic book of the same title written by Professor LI Qiang from Shaanxi Normal University, China. The book breaks through the concept of regarding Han Drama as the center, yet elaborates the Silk Road drama as an inclusive culture and a prevailing literary art form in human civilization. Relying on his extensive experience and broad vision, the author conducts the thorough study by means of literature, artifacts and academic fieldwork. The book studies the drama culture of all ethnic groups from Asia, Europe and Africa and touches upon the cultural exchanges between China and its neighboring countries, between the East and the West. The carefully presented details in this book are aimed to explore all the related fields such as dramaturgy, philology, phonology, religion, history, geography, archeology, ethnology, and folklore between the East and the West from the perspective of cultural anthropology. The explanations in the book contribute to an in-depth study on the origins of the Silk Road and the drama culture along the Silk Road. About the Author LI Qiang is Professor of Comparative Literature and PhD Supervisor at Shaanxi Normal University, Member of Chinese Dramatists Society and Secretary General of Chinese Western Region Art Association. He has accomplished academic projects of different levels, received more than ten awards, and authored or edited twenty books. The Silk Road: The Study of Drama Culture, financially sponsored by China National Publishing Fund in 2010 and the Chinese Fund for the Humanities and Social Science in 2015, has received the Outstanding Achievement Award of Humanities and Social Science by Education Department of Shaanxi Province, the Outstanding Achievement Award of Philosophy and Social Science by the Shaanxi Province, and the Outstanding Achievement Award of Scientific Research for Chinese Institutions of Higher Education by the Chinese Ministry of Education.GAO Fen is an associate professor and has been working in the School of Foreign Languages at Shaanxi Normal University China since 1999. She has a MA in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics. She teaches consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting at undergraduate and graduate level and also comprehensive English for both postgraduates and PhD candidates. During 2009-2010 and 2015-2016, she stayed in the University of Massachusetts in US and Nottingham Unviersity in UK respectively as a visiting scholar.Prof. Gao is specialized in translation and interpreting teaching and practice, as well as English language teaching over the long run. She has successively published papers in a number of Chinese and foreign academic core journals in the last decade. Her publications cover a wide range of areas including translation, interpreting, teacher education, English language teaching, and teaching assessment. She has also published nine translated works and participated in some national and provincial-level projects on translation and language teaching.
