La Biblia griega o Septuaginta (LXX) es una colección de escritos, la mayor parte de ellos traducidos del hebreo y algunos redactados originalmente en griego, que fue compuesta desde el siglo III a.C. hasta el I d.C. El nombre alude al número de setenta o setenta y dos eruditos que según la legendaria Carta de Aristeas tradujeron la Torá judía en Alejandría (285-246 a.C.). Comúnmente, sin embargo, se entiende por Septuaginta los libros que Alfred Rahlfs recoge en su edición de 1935, y que coincide con los principales códices unciales: Vaticano, Sinaítico y Alejandrino (siglos IV y V d.C.), los cuales conservan las primeras biblias cristianas completas. El plan general de La Biblia griega - Septuaginta. Traducción española está compuesto por cuatro volúmenes: I. Pentateuco; II. Libros históricos; III. Libros poéticos o sapienciales; y IV. Libros proféticos. Natalio Fernández Marcos y María Victoria Spottorno Díaz-Caro son los responsables de este ambicioso proyecto que integra a diferentes filólogos bíblicos trilingües españoles. Los coordinadores forman parte del grupo de investigación de «Filología y crítica textual bíblicas» del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC Madrid), gracias al cual ha podido llevarse a cabo. Las introducciones, traducción y notas del presente volumen han sido realizadas por Natalio Fernández (Introducción general, Jueces, 1-2 Reinos, 1 Esdras, Tobit y Judit), María Victoria Spottorno (Rut, 3-4 Reinos y Ester), José Manuel Cañas Reíllo (Iesoús, 1-2 Paraleipómena y 1-2 Macabeos), Mercedes López Salvá (3-4 Macabeos) e Inmaculada Delgado Jara (2 Esdras).
