Cantina Mesa Primo Bianco Vermentino di Sardegna 2018 Wine 75 cl (Case of 3)

Cantina Mesa 'Primo Bianco' Vermentino di Sardegna Wine is pale gold in colour with perfumes of white flowers and pear. On the palate, there is a good balance of freshness, a touch of exotic fruit and pineapple and pleasing weight. Peach and yellow fruits linger on the finish. The estate comprises 70 hectares in the heart of Sulcis Iglesiente. The largest part of the vineyards is located in the Sant`Anna Arresi area, in a valley sheltered from the maestrale winds and surrounded by the sea. The vines are vertically trained, largely to spurred cordon, some to the alberello, or bush, style, depending on local conditions and exposure. Winter and the first part of spring were as usual, and good rainfall built up water reserves in the soil, so the vine, which saw no rain from June through September, stayed healthy. Heavy rain in May favoured a regular bud break. Following this, no rain fell until September. June was an extremely dry month, August was incredibly hot and humid with hot winds-predominantly the Scirocco-blowing in mainly from the south. In Sulcis conditions in September were ideal in terms of diurnal temperature range and rainfall, allowing the vineyards to re-balance. At Cantina Mesa, harvest of the white grapes commenced on 10th August and concluded on 25th September. The clusters were sound and healthy, since leaf-thinning and careful anti-fungal treatments counteracted conditions that were otherwise favourable to attack by oïdium and by vine moths and leaf hoppers. The white wines shrugged off any negative impacts of the growing year, exhibiting fine aromatics and judicious alcohols, with remarkably fine levels of acidity and crispness. The grapes were picked by hand and then de-stemmed and crushed. Using gravity, the must flowed into the fermenters on the level below, thereby avoiding use of pumps or other machinery. The wine spent a brief amount of time in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
