Die derzeitigen technologischen Anwendungen von Werkstoffen sind vielfältig, insbesondere von Metallen, die mit Nitridschichten beschichtet sind. In den letzten Jahren wurden zahlreiche Forschungsarbeiten mit dem Ziel durchgeführt, die Haftung dieser Schichten auf Stahlsubstraten zu optimieren, um ihren Anwendungsbereich zu erweitern. Nitridschichten aus Metallkationen, insbesondere aus Titan, Zirkonium, Chrom und Aluminium, haben sich als sehr interessant für Anwendungen erwiesen, bei denen Oberflächenhärte, Korrosionsbeständigkeit und Scherfestigkeit erforderlich sind. Die Haftung dieser Schichten war jedoch die größte Einschränkung für tribologische Anwendungen, die einen hohen mechanischen Aufwand an der Oberfläche erfordern. In dieser Arbeit werden Techniken zur Verdünnung der Schicht/Substrat-Grenzfläche untersucht, und zwar durch: i) thermisch aktivierte Diffusion oder Interdiffusion und ii) schrittweise Veränderung der chemischen Zusammensetzung der Schicht/Substrat-Grenzfläche (funktionelle Schichten). Untersucht wurden die Schichten und Grenzflächen, die sich zwischen TiN- und AlN-Schichten und Stahlsubstraten AISI M2 und AISI D6 bilden.
