Die Entwicklung neuer Katalysatoren für die selektive Propan-Oxidation im Überschuss von Kohlenstoffmonoxid und der Mechanismus dieser Selektivität standen im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit. Zunächst wurden Sol-Gel-basierte Verbindungen hergestellt. Mithilfe der Pulver-Röntgendiffraktometrie konnten die beiden entscheidenden Phasen Anatas und Eskolait identifiziert und die Synthese stark vereinfacht werden. Mit Cr(III) imprägnierter Rutil zeigte eine Umkehr der Selektivität zugunsten des CO. Weiterhin wurden wichtige Erkenntnisse bezüglich der aktiven Phase gewonnen, die durch Dotierung von Anatas mit Cr(III) entstand. Die mechanistischen Aspekte der Selektivität wurden mittels DRIFT-Spektroskopie untersucht. Damit wurden entscheidende Erkenntnisse zur Selektivität und zum Mechanismus der Propan-Oxidation an den TiCr-Oxiden erlangt, wobei der Gittersauerstoff des Katalysators eine wichtige Rolle spielt.
