This textbook with DVD teaches communicative skills in Moroccan Arabic. Designed for anyone who wants to be able to function in daily life in Morocco, it can be used by anyone who is at least a beginner learning Modern Standard Arabic simulaneously. Students will learn to greet people and introduce themselves, ask and reply to simple questions, talk about future plans, give directions, order food, shop, make appointments and reservations, and use numbers and common idiomatic expressions. These materials use Romanized transcription for the first three chapters alongside the Arabic script and thereafter only the Arabic script.The materials are designed to cover 120 contact hours plus 180-240 hours of preparation outside class, although it may also be used for self-instruction. A novice student should reach the intermediate-mid level by the end of the course. The book and the DVD are designed to be used in tandem. The DVD presents cultural videos on various topics ranging from clothing and food to Ramadan and weddings, and background on the Moroccan language. It also contains extensive listening materials, including vocabulary, dialogues and reading passages, listening exercises, of which many are interactive and self-correcting, and additional materials that include practical information and tools for converting metric measurements. In addition to the vocabulary and listening exercises, the book also contains extensive communicative exercises and grammar explanations, glossaries, and an answer key.
