Routledge Social and Ethnic Inequalities in Cypriot Education

Inclusive education is a priority at international and European levels, viewed as a human rights issue and a strategy to tackle inequality and promote social cohesion. This book explores these dynamics within the Cypriot education system through a critical realist lens. It addresses the need to accommodate diverse learners in mainstream schooling and provide high quality education for all. By applying critical realist ideas to empirical research, this work aims to close the theory-practice gap. It shifts the focus from epistemology to ontology regarding how teachers are empowered to deliver inclusive education. Instead of looking at broad societal trends, the research maintains a specific focus on the school context to understand how social and ethnic inequalities function in real-world educational settings.
