The DollaTek L293D Motor Drive Expansion Shield is a high-current, 4-channel motor driver designed for Arduino Duemilanove, Mega, and R3 boards. Built on the L293D monolithic chip, this shield delivers up to 600mA per channel and supports DC voltages from 4.5V to 36V, making it suitable for large motors and demanding applications. The shield features four H-Bridge circuits with individual thermal protection, allowing precise bidirectional control of up to 4 DC motors with 8-bit speed selection, or alternatively 2 stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) with single coil, double coil, or interleaved stepping modes. Two dedicated servo interfaces connect to high-resolution timers for jitter-free 5V servo operation. The L293D architecture enables voltage application in both directions across motor terminals, providing the flexibility needed for complex robotics and automation projects whilst maintaining reliable performance under load.
