The Rhone Valley is said to be the oldest vineyard in France, it is thought that the vine was planted there by the Phoceans. The Romans, later, developed the technique of wine making. The Templars, in the 12th century, planted the first vines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Today, this vineyard extends over 73,000 hectares and 200 kilometres. The wines are produced on both banks of the Rhône, with those on the left bank being more robust and heady than those on the right bank. A steady improvement in quality has enabled the wines of this region to rival some of the great vintages. Among the major French A.O.P. regions, the Côtes-du-Rhône occupies one of the very first places in terms of surface area and production volume. The Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of grape varieties that is a perfect match for the Côtes du Rhône. This blend of Rhone Valley grape varieties is balanced, aromatic, with intense, fine and fruity aromas with a spicy background. On the palate, the attack is frank, round and elegant. This wine is ideal to accompany a grilled leg of lamb, veal or duck.
