L'univers de Dolorès Marat est une énigme photographique, un récit poétique et troublant. Les arbres se mettent en marche, les portes de cinéma nous sourient, une femme crocodile prend des notes, il pleut des oiseaux tandis qu'une raie nous observe à travers la vitre de l'aquarium. Du métro aux portes du Moyen-Orient, où sur terre nous emmène Dolorès Marat ? Quel est le secret qu'elle nous chuchote ? Cette monographie, publiée à l'occasion du Prix Robert Delpire 2023, nous invite à parcourir l'oeuvre intangible et envoûtante de la photographe, à l'image des silhouettes fantomatiques qu'elle capture à travers de rares éclats de lumière. Dolorès Marat aime photographier à l'heure bleue, à la tombée de la nuit ou au lever du jour dans des atmosphères faiblement éclairées, vaporeuses, propices au merveilleux. Elle assume ce flou de bougé, et sa proximité avec la peinture est renforcée par son choix du tirage Fresson au charbon. Images hallucinées, visions fugitives, tout est suggéré, permettant au regardeur de s'inventer ses propres histoires. Comme le souligne Magali Jauffret dans son très beau texte : " Dolorès ne fait pas de mise en scène, elle ne triche pas avec ce qu'elle voit. Elle ne recadre pas, ne retouche pas, ne postproduit pas. Elle ne prend qu'une photo et ce sera la bonne. Elle fabrique de l'instantané. ". Tout à la fois photographe culte et artiste populaire, Dolorès Marat est inclassable.
