Il volume offre la summa dell'intera opera di Paolo Pellegrin, (1964), uno tra i più importanti fotografi della scena internazionale. Curata da Germano Celant e frutto e di un lungo lavoro sull'archivio del fotografo, la pubblicazione raccoglie oltre mille immagini, scandite cronologicamente per decadi, in modo da ripercorrere il percorso creativo e documentario di Pellegrin, membro dell'agenzia dal 2005, vincitore di dieci World Press Photo Award e di numerosi riconoscimenti come la Leica Medal of Excellence, l'Olivier Rebbot Award, l'Hansel- Mieth Prize, il Robert Capa Gold Medal Award e nel 2006 il W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. Contestualmente vengono approfonditi i temi che animano il suo lavoro, in cui la visione del reporter si intreccia con l'intensità visiva dell'artista. I suoi scatti nascono spesso in contesti e scenari dove il limite dell'esistere, sia della natura sia dell'essere umano, diviene una soglia, in cui il dramma transita nella speranza e il desiderio di vivere sconfina nella morte.
