Description The Lonsdale brand was founded in 1960 by the 22-year-old British boxer Bernhard Hart in London. The name of his brand was Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale (1857-1944), who made a name in modern boxing in the 1890s. Hugh Lowther was a founding member of the National Sporting Club, which under strict rules of public boxing fighting and thus significantly contributed to the social recognition of boxing. In 1960, Bernhard Hart opened the first Lonsdale shop on Beak Street, in the middle of Soho London.
