The Paddler Marlborough GrÃf1/4ner Veltliner 2012 Wine 75 cl (Case of 3)

The Paddler Marlborough Grüner Veltliner wine has wonderful, pure aromatics exemplifying classic notes of mandarin, ripe peach and white pepper. With a lengthy textural finish the wine will delight the palate. Gruner Veltliner, endemic to Austria, is a very new grape variety in New Zealand. While plantings remain comparatively minute, it shows promise as a serious contender for the Marlborough region. The Paddler Gruner Veltliner vineyard is located in Rapaura, Marlborough and is managed by grower Malcolm Adams. These crop vines produced fruit of exceptional quality. The free-draining alluvial soil had a significant part to play. As the vines age, the fruit quality will only get better. The 2012 growing season was characterised by a cooler spring which gave rise to lower yields and excellent plant health. The cooler and drier ripening period created very low disease pressure resulting in a later harvest where the subsequent flavours have rich concentration, intensity and length. The last of all varieties to be picked, the Gruner Veltliner was destemmed and crushed, pressed and then press-cut. The pressings were then handled oxidatively. The wine was cool-fermented, with 10% in French oak puncheons to add just a hint of richness and the balance going to stainless steel tank. The wine was then recombined and bottled.
