About the Author Dr. Yun Lai Zhou is a Research Fellow at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid, Spain. His research interests include structural health monitoring and fracture mechanics, and he has authored and co-authored numerous publications on the subject of structural health monitoring and structural modal analysis in international journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Magd Abdel Wahab is a Professor of Applied Mechanics at Soete Laboratory at Ghent University, Belgium. He received his B.Sc in Civil Engineering in 1988, and his M.Sc. in Structural Mechanics in 1991, both from Cairo University. Prof. Wahab completed his Ph.D. in Fracture Mechanics in 1995 at KU Leuven, Belgium, and was awarded a Doctor of Science degree by the University of Surrey in 2008. His research interests include fracture mechanics, damage mechanics, fatigue of materials, durability, and dynamics and vibration of structures, and he has published more than 210 scientific papers and technical reports on solid mechanics and dynamics of structures. Prof. Nuno M.M. Maia obtained his first degree and master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Tecnico, University of Lisbon, in 1978 and 1985 respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Vibrations (1989) from Imperial College London, UK, and his postdoctoral qualification in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from the Instituto Superior Tecnico, University of Lisbon. Prof. Maia has authored and co-authored two textbooks and about 200 scientific publications on the subject of modal analysis and structural dynamics in international journals and conference proceedings. He is an Associate Editor of the Shock and Vibration Journal, a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Vibration and Control, member of the Editorial Board of the Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, member of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), and a member of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV) and of the Portuguese Society of Acoustics (SPA), where he is responsible for the area of vibrations.
