La Biblia Vulgata Latina es, por así decirlo, el texto oficial de la Iglesia, del que, sin perjuicio de acudir a los textos originales hebreo y griego, tienen que servirse continuamente los profesores y alumnos de los centros docentes eclesiásticos. Preparada la primera edición, en 1946, por los prestigiosos profesores de Sagrada Escritura Alberto Colunga y Lorenzo Turrado, su labor no consistió únicamente en reproducir con fidelidad el texto de la Vulgata, sino que añadieron una serie de complementos que ayudan enormemente a la mejor comprensión del texto. Así, en lugar de un texto bíblico seguido, se han intercalado oportunamente títulos y epígrafes a lo largo de cada capítulo, para lograr una lectura mucho más fácil y agradable. Además, a cada libro precede un «sumario», de gran ayuda para retener en la memoria los temas e ideas fundamentales allí desarrollados. Finalmente, uno de los grandes aciertos de esta edición es el magnífico "Index bíblicus doctrinalis" puesto al final, con el que el lector puede informarse fácilmente sobre qué dice la Escritura y dónde acerca de una determinada verdad o tema.
