La quantification des composants bioactifs de la plante plantain (PL, Plantago lanceolata L.) a été réalisée par HPLC, et les activités de piégeage des radicaux anions superoxydes (O2・－) (SOSA) ont été déterminées à l'aide d'un spectromètre ESR. Le modèle [2H5]phénylalanine a été comparé à la méthode [1-13C]leucine afin de sélectionner la technique réalisable pour déterminer la synthèse des protéines du corps entier (WBPS) chez le mouton. Des méthodes de dilution d'isotopes stables utilisant du [6, 6-2H]glucose, du [1-13C]leucine, du [1-13C]Na acétate et du [U-13C]glucose ont été réalisées pour déterminer les effets du PL sur les métabolismes plasmatiques du glucose et de l'acétate, WBPS et réponses du métabolisme du glucose plasmatique à l'insuline exogène chez le mouton lors d'une exposition à la chaleur. On pourrait conclure que la méthode de dilution isotopique de la [1-13C]leucine pourrait être appliquée à l’étude WBPS sans déterminer la production de CO2 chez les moutons. Le PL a joué un rôle positif sur les métabolismes du glucose plasmatique, des acides aminés et de l’acétate et, plus intéressant encore, le PL s’est révélé résistant au stress thermique et à l’hormone insuline chez le mouton. L'herbe PL pourrait être utilisée comme additif naturel pour garantir la quantité et la qualité des produits de l'élevage.
