Son yıllarda yaşanan liberalleşme hareketleri ile birlikte uluslararası sermaye hareketlerinin miktarı ve hızı artmıştır. Bu çalışmada yabancı sermayenin hangi yollardan ekonomik büyümeye katkı sağladığı ve büyümenin yabancı finansman ile sürdürülebilir olup olmadığını tartışılmıştır. Türkiye özelinde yapılan bu çalışmada yabancı sermayenin diğer gelişmekte olan ülkelerde olduğu gibi kredi hacminde bir artışa neden olduğu ve büyümeye pozitif katkı sağladığı ancak hanehalkı ve firmalar üzerinde artan borç yükünü beraberinde getirdiği ortaya konmuştur. Son yirmi yılda dünya genelinde faiz oranlarının düşmesi Türkiye'nin kolay ve ucuz dış finansman sağlamasına olanak tanırken, son yıllarda gelişmiş ülkelerin faiz oranlarını artırma eğilimi, gelişmekte olan ülkeler gibi Türkiye'yi de zor durumda bırakacak gibi görünmektedir.
