A pesar de ser consideradas como técnicas estándar para el análisis elemental, ICP-OES e ICP-MS todavía poseen dos grandes debilidades: baja eficiencia de transporte del aerosol generado por el nebulizador e interferencias provocadas por la matriz de la muestra. En lo referente a la técnica LIBS, su principal potencial radica en las posibilidades que ofrece para el análisis elemental in situ, debido al pequeño tamaño de los equipos y a su fácil automatización. Sin embargo, la baja sensibilidad de LIBS constituye su debilidad más destacada, en especial en el análisis de muestras líquidas. El presente libro describe el desarrollo de nuevas metodologías analíticas basadas en la utilización de un nebulizador múltiple de alta eficiencia como componente del sistema de introducción de muestras en ICP-OES e ICP-MS. Por otro lado, se describe el desarrollo de nuevos métodos de análisis basados en la microextracción líquido-líquido, que combinada con LIBS, puede convertirse en una herramienta sensible para el análisis elemental de muestras líquidas. Las metodologías desarrolladas han dado como resultado una mejora en los parámetros analíticos de calidad en las técnicas ICP-OES/MS y LIBS.
