L’approche d’apprentissage par problèmes (APP) vit le jour à la fin des années 1960 et fût vite adoptée par de nombreuses facultés de par le monde . Malgré ce succès , des controverses persistent notamment concernant l'apprentissage des concepts scientifiques. La présente recherche a donc voulu explorer l’apprentissage de ces concepts , en tant que processus de construction, chez des étudiants formés par l’APP, à la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal, en nous appuyant sur l'approche socioconstructiviste de Vygotski. La construction s'étend sur les trois phases de l'APP. A la phase aller les représentations conceptuelles considérées comme des concepts spontanés étaient souvent erronées. En revenant de leur travail personnel, les étudiants avaient trois genres de représentations conceptuelles: correctes, incomplètes et erronées. Ces concepts théoriques devaient être confrontés au problème concret, grâce aux interactions de la phase retour pour corriger les erreurs, valider les attributs, arriver à une compréhension partagée que chaque étudiant s'approprie à sa manière. lectorat ciblé: les Facultés et enseignants utilisant l'APP, et les «amis» de Vygotski.
