Matthias Kempf entwickelt ein Erklärungsmodell für die Entwicklung komplexer Industriesektoren mit ökonomischen und politischen Interdependenzen und gibt Gestaltungsvorschläge für das strategische Management. Dabei erweitert er bewährte Theorien um wesentliche Aspekte und verknüpft unterschiedliche Ansätze zu einem geschlossenen Modell, das er quantitativ untermauert. Im Ergebnis wird deutlich, dass die Positionierung eines Unternehmens in der Wertschöpfungskette nur optimiert werden kann, wenn die Unternehmen sämtliche marktgegebenen und politischen Abhängigkeiten in ihrem Umfeld in Betracht ziehen. Aus der Struktur der Abhängigkeitsbeziehungen kann das Management ableiten, welche konkrete Organisationsform in Betracht gezogen werden sollte. Abschließend wird der Ansatz in einer ausführlichen und in dieser Form bisher einmaligen Studie des deutschen Kabelnetzsektors demonstriert.
