This research work aims to assess the institutional parameters in the smooth running of farmer's market. The study also reflects the relationship between training needs with the socio-personal characteristics of farming community. Training needs of farmers and a new model for effective functioning of farmer's market was developed as a part of this study. A sample size of 120 farmers of Anna Nagar Farmer's Market were the respondents of this study. Arithmetic mean, Percentage analysis, Multiple regression, Garrette ranking method and Path analysis were used to analyze the collected data. The findings of this study will assist policy makers and think tanks to develop appropriate strategies for effective functioning of farmer's market. The training need areas identified, strength, weakness and opportunity explored in association with threat factors will assist in effective agricultural marketing of farmers produce thereby assuring prosperity through effective sale of agricultural produce without middle men or commission agents. The study will assist in developing institutional linkages and offer a platform for the farming community to reap a larger share in consumer rupee.
