Description

The aim of an extension information service is to empower the farmer with adequate information for effective and sustainable livestock farming. This book is concerned with delivery of messages transmitted through several channels by extension workers. Issues tackled include the range of extension information services provided to farmers, extent to which these information services meet the needs of farmers, channels used in communicating extension information and suggestions on establishing an effective provision of information to the farmers in rural areas. Taking a descriptive and analytical approach, the chapters demonstrate how the provision of extension information services is not satisfactory as most of the farmers’ information needs are not met and many lack adequate information on dairy farming. The book proposes a framework for the delivery of livestock information that provides for information that is current and real-time. It is hoped that the issues dealt in the book will be valuable to livestock researchers, academicians, farmers, policy makers and the general citizenry.
