Factors that influence the News Values and Practices of Young Journalists in Kenya is the first book in Africa to focus on the induction of young journalists into the newsrooms and one of only few in Africa to investigate the news values and practices of journalists. It examines the young Kenyan journalists’ news values and the factors influencing the way they carry out their work. The central questions of this research were: how do young journalists find ways to do good journalism even under difficult circumstances? How do young journalists maintain their integrity and attempt to have a real impact on public affairs? The book investigates how Kenyan journalists view journalism training in the country and how they think it can be improved. It examines the most significant aspects of on-the-job learning, that is, the most important things the young reporters learn in the Kenyan newsrooms and how learning in the newsroom takes place. A special section is dedicated to the importance of the news media organisation in shaping media content.
