Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema der Personalkosten, in erster Linie aus Sicht der Unternehmensführung und des Controlling. Hierbei verfolgt Michaela Staffel einen multidimensionalen Ansatz der Forschung: Es werden kostenpolitische Analysefelder sowie angrenzende Funktionsbereiche, wie etwa Unternehmenskultur oder Betriebsorganisation, insbesondere unter dem Fokus von Arbeitszeitmodellen betrachtet und in die durchgeführten, empirischen Arbeiten integriert. Als Resultat der Forschungen ergeben sich Empfehlungen für die praktische Umsetzung, die gerade unter dem Gesichtspunkt eines zunehmend erforderlichen betrieblichen Fixkostenmanagements zu interpretieren sind. Die Autorin liefert ein sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch fundiertes Managementmodell, das den Besonderheiten des Betriebstyps „mittelständisches Unternehmen“ Rechnung trägt und die dringend gebotene Neuorientierung des Managements der fixen Personalkosten im Mittelstand unterstützt.
