Dieses Buch befaßt sich mit den Grundlagen der Eigenschaften der Werk stoffe der Elektrotechnik und soll dem Leser einen Begriff über Anwendungs möglichkeiten der verschiedenen Werkstoffe vermitteln. Obwohl in erster Linie für Universitätsstudenten der Fachrichtung Elektrotechnik gedacht, wird es wahr scheinlich allen nutzen können, deren Interesse an Bauelementen der Elektrotechnik sich nicht allein darauf beschränkt, daß das Bauelement in der Schaltung richtig funktioniert, was zweifellos das Wichtigste ist, sondern die darüber hinaus ihre Neugier nach dem Verständnis des physikalischen Vorganges im Werkstoff be friedigen möchten. Das Verhalten von dielektrischen, magnetischen und Halbleiter-Werkstoffen in elektrischen und magnetischen Feldern wird behandelt. Es wurde davon ab gesehen, viele spezielle Werkstoffeigenschaften zu nennen, weil diese oft nur in Sondergebieten der Elektrotechnik eine Rolle spielen. Das Buch ist mehr oder weniger ein gedrucktes Manuskript einer Vorlesung "Werkstoffe der Elektro technik", wodurch auch die Reihenfolge der Themen gegeben ist. Wir glauben, daß es nicht Aufgabe einer Planvorlesung ist, den Studenten mit einer Vielzahl von allen möglichen Eigenschaften von Werkstoffen zu konfrontieren. Im Vordergrund sollte das Verständnis der Zusammenhänge zwischen den verschiedenen Werkstoff eigenschaften stehen. Die Studenten sollen mit den Grundlagen, Begriffen und Größenordnungen vertraut gemacht werden, damit es ihnen möglich wird, die Funktionen der Werkstoffe in Bauelementen der Elektrotechnik zu verstehen, und, wenn sie wollen, auch ihre Kenntnisse mit Hilfe der Fachliteratur auf dem Gebiet der Festkörperelektronik zu erweitern.
