Um dem Thema eine praktische Anwendungen zu vermitteln, beinhaltet die Ausarbeitung zahlreiche Beispiele die sich an der Organisation, dem "Internationalen Controller Verein", orientieren. Nach einer kompakten Einleitung, die auf die vergangene Entwicklung des Internets sowie dem derzeitigen Status Quo des World Wide Web eingeht, gibt die Theses einen breiten Überblick bezüglich des aktuellen Einsatzes von Web 2.0 Anwendungen. Dabei bedienen sich die Autoren einer Reihe ausgewählter Studien (McKinsey, IBM, The Economist, Forester Research,...). Im Anschluss wird an Hand konkreter Fakten/Zahlen die Nische "Controlling im Internet" aufgeschlüsselt. Der darauf folgende Abschnitt "Konzeption und Aufbau" beschreibt die am häufigsten auftretenden Web 2.0 Anwendungen (Blog, Wiki, Identitätsmanagement, Kommunikationsmanagement Networking, Open Source-Anwendungen, Jobbörsen) und deren Nutzen. Darüber hinaus werden diese Anwendungen konkret auf das Beispiel des Internationalen Controller Vereins zugeschnitten. Im Kapitel "Erlösquellen" stellen die Verfasser die derzeit populärsten Einnahmemöglichkeiten (z.B. Advertising, Gebühren Commerce, Stellenanzeigen), die sich Unternehmen im Internet anbieten, vor. Den Hauptprofiteuren der momentanen Internetentwicklung, den Marketing- und Vertriebsabteilungen, werden im Ausarbeitungsteil "Online Marketing" praktische Handlungsmöglichkeiten aufgezeigt. Die Autoren gehen dazu auf die Instrumente "Suchmaschinenmarketing (SEM), Bannerwerbung, Affiliate-Marketing, Suchmaschinenoptimierung (SEO), Virales Marketing sowie dem Einsatz von Blogs in der Unternehmenskommunikation
