In den vergangenen Jahren haben stochastische Modelle bei der Modellierung von Aktienkursen zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen. Das Buch beschäftigt sich mit stochastischen Volatilitätsmodellen. Diese stellen eine unmittelbare Verallgemeinerung der gewöhnlichen Black-Scholes-Modelle dar, mit dem Unterschied, dass die Volatilität nun nicht mehr als konstant sondern als stochastisch angenommen wird. Dabei wird ein Hauptaugenmerk auf eine mathematisch exakte und verständliche Herleitung dieser Modelle gelegt. Weiterhin wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Optionspreisbestimmung und partiellen Differentialgleichungen ausführlich behandelt. Für die daraus resultierende lineare parabolische Differentialgleichung zweiter Ordnung wird die Existenz, Eindeutigkeit und Regularität der Lösung, sowohl mittels Hilbertraumtheorie als auch mittels Halbgruppentheorie, intensiv diskutiert. Zudem wird die Analytizität (im Raum und in der Zeit) der Lösung bewiesen. Abgerundet wird dieses Buch durch eine Diskussion verschiedener numerischer Lösungsalgorithmen.
