Und wie viel Schuld tragen die Industrienationen daran? Was können die Regierungen, was die Zivilbevölkerung im Westen dagegen unternehmen? Die Autorin Michaela Stemplinger zeichnet ein Bild der heutigen Konflikte auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent und betrachtet ausgewählte Maßnahmen, die von Deutschland unternommen werden, um der Gewalt ein Ende zu setzen. Anhand expliziter Länderbeispiele erläutert sie die Ursachen der gewaltsamen Konflikte und diskutiert dazu u. a. die "ethnisierten Konflikte", den Ressourcenfluch und die Problematik der ungleichen Machtverteilung. Im Anschluss bespricht die Autorin das Programm "Ziviler Friedensdienst" und betrachtet militärische Interventionen sowie deren Wirksamkeit und Grenzen zur Lösung der Konflikte. Abschließend zeigt sie aber auch das "andere" Afrika, das seine Stimme für den Frieden erhebt und eigenverantwortlich Wege aus den Krisen sucht. Grundlage dieses Buches ist die Diplomarbeit der Autorin (FH Deggendorf, Betreuer: Prof. J. Nagengast).
