Blatter, Präsident des Internationalen Fußball Verbandes, gab am 6. Juli 2000 um 14.08 Uhr bekannt, dass der Deutsche Fußball Bund die Fußballweltmeisterschaft 2006 in Deutschland ausrichten darf. Seit der Bekanntgabe laufen die Vorbereitungen auf dieses Events auf Hochtouren. Nicht nur in den zwölf Austragungsstädten, auch zahlreiche andere Städte, Gemeinden, Einzelhändler und Firmen wollen diese Veranstaltung für ihre unternehmerischen Ziele positiv nutzen. Die Weltmeisterschaft 2006 wird nicht allein die deutschen Bundesbürger begeistern, sondern die ganze Welt, die ihren Blick für mindestens vier Wochen auf das Land richten wird. Fußballweltmeisterschaften sind etwas Besonderes. Nicht nur, da sie alle vier Jahre stattfinden, sondern auch das während dieser Zeit Geschichten geschrieben werden. Für viele Bürger gelten die Spieler der Weltmeisterschaft 1954 als Helden und sind ebenfalls Vorbilder für zahlreiche Fußballspieler von heute. Der Kinoerfolg des Filmes „Das Wunder von Bern" zeigt, dass auch 50 Jahre später der Mythos dieser Weltmeisterschaft noch anhält. Fußball verbindet Nationen, Menschen unterschiedlicher Hautfarbe, verschiedener Sprachen, Herkunft und Ansichten. Fußball schafft Zusammengehörigkeit und gilt für viele Menschen als Lebensinhalt, als 90 Minuten, in denen es nur die Mannschaft, den Ball und den Fan gibt. Aus diesem Grund stellt sich nun die Frage, welche Chancen und Risiken sich durch die Fußballweltmeisterschaft in Deutschland für den Tourismus ergeben und welche positiven und negativen Effekte dadurch hervorgerufen werden können. In dieser Arbeit werden anhand von verschiedenen Beispielen die positiven und negativen Einflüsse eines solchen Mega-Events in Bezug auf die Weltmeisterschaftsstadt Frankfurt am Main dargelegt.
