Die Beiträge dieses Bandes befassen sich mit dem sogenannten Slawenoserbischen, der Schriftsprache der Serben im späten 18. und in den ersten Jahrzehnten des 19. Jahrhunderts, sowie mit dem Werk, Leben und Zeitalter des Sprachreformers Sava Mrkalj, dessen programmatischer Text Salo debeloga jera libo azbukoprotres vor 200 Jahren veröffentlicht wurde. In diesem Kontext werden verschiedene Aspekte der Epoche, ihres Kulturparadigmas und der damaligen Schriftsprache behandelt. Einen weiteren thematischen Strang stellen die Arbeiten dar, die sich mit der Poetik, Rhetorik und den literarischen Richtungen des serbischen Schrifttums beschäftigen.
