Idioma: Griego La edición de la Septuaginta de Alfred Rahlfs fue una base importante para la investigación a nivel mundial desde el momento en que fue publicada por primera vez en 1935. Posteriormente, en 2006, esta edición de Rahlfs fue revisada por el prestigioso especialista Robert Hanhart, quien corrigió y amplió el texto y el aparato en más de un millar de casos. Aunque evolucionaba paulatinamente, la Septuaginta no depende meramente de la parte hebrea existente de las Sagradas Escrituras tal y como la conocemos, ya que listado de las escrituras hebreas solo adquirió una forma definitiva en los siglos III/II a.C., y aún más tarde la sección no contenida en el Pentateuco y los Profetas. De este modo, la Biblia hebrea y la Septuaginta se desarrollaban en paralelo a lo largo de un proceso complicado. Como lo demuestra una comparación de las recensiones textuales griegas y hebreas, la Septuaginta se basa en un texto hebreo autónomo, en parte aún más antiguo que aquel que posteriormente iba a adquirir la validez canónica entre el conjunto de los judíos. Para el Nuevo Testamento, la Septuaginta -igual que la colección de las Sagradas Escrituras- tiene al menos tanta importancia como el texto hebreo. Para los primeros cristianos de lengua griega, la Septuaginta era la Sagrada Escritura, y de hecho los autores del Nuevo Testamento basaron sus citas del Antiguo Testamento más en la Septuaginta que en el texto hebreo (y arameo). Durante el transcurso de la separación de los caminos del cristianismo y el judaísmo, la Septuaginta se fue estableciendo como la Sagrada Escritura de la Iglesia. De hecho, algunos traductores como Aquila o Teodoción se esforzaron en realizar una traducción griega para el judaísmo en el siglo II. No obstante, con el tiempo, los rabinos judíos sentían un rechazo profundo cada vez mayor hacia una traducción griega de la Torá. Por otra parte, en la Iglesia solo quedaban unos pocos estudiosos (Orígenes, Jerónimo) que aún estaban familiarizados con la lectura del texto hebreo, que, de hecho, dejó de usarse en la práctica de las iglesias occidentales. Fueron los humanistas de principios del siglo XVI quienes lo recuperaron para el Cristianismo Occidental, sobre todo para las iglesias de la Reforma. Para el Cristianismo Oriental y Bizantino, la Septuaginta continúa siendo el texto definitivo del Antiguo Testamento.
