Eine systematische Analyse der Struktur von Uwe Johnsons monumentalem Roman Jahrestage. Aus dem Leben von Gesine Cresspahl ist bislang ein Desiderat geblieben; die vorliegende Untersuchung soll diese Lücke schließen. Sie richtet ihr Augenmerk dazu primär auf jene Mnemopoetik, die dem Roman sein charakteristisches Gepräge gibt und die ihrerseits durch eine systematische Engführung der einzelnen Erinnerungen und ihrer Gehalte gekennzeichnet ist. Zur Beschreibung dieser strukturellen Eigenart werden sprach- und literaturwissenschaftliche Ansätze zu einem integrativen exegetischen Instrumentarium zusammengeführt, das die Inhalts- und die Formseite des Textes konsequent aufeinander bezieht. Es erlaubt so, Figuren der mimetischen Darstellung unbewusst ablaufender und potentiell unendlicher Erinnerungsvorgänge zum einen und solche der Konstitution einer reflektierten, intentionalen Erinnerung zum anderen nachzuzeichnen und jeweils an paradigmatische textuelle Muster rückzubinden. Dieses analytische Rüstzeug wird in einer Reihe von Einzelstudien erprobt und sukzessive erweitert; dabei fällt auch auf die Disposition des Romans im Ganzen wie auf seine poetologischen, erinnerungs- und sprachtheoretischen Voraussetzungen ein Licht.
