Der Kommentar zum Textband 2 (Gedichte 1827-1844 und Versepen) der Heine-Säkularsausgabe, der bereits 1979 erschienen ist, enthält die Entstehungsgeschichten, Überlieferungsangaben und Erläuterungen zu sämtlichen Gedichten, die zwischen dem Abschluss des Manuskriptes des ‚Buches der Lieder" im Frühjahr 1827 und dem Erscheinen der "Neuen Gedichte" im September 1844 entstanden, von Heine jedoch nicht in diese Sammlung aufgenommen worden sind, sowie den Kommentar zu den Versepen "Atta Troll", "Deutschland. Ein Wintermärchen" Und zu den Paralipomena zu den Versepen. Wegen des großen Umfangs der Kommentare zu diesen Werken war eine Teilung des Kommentarbandes erforderlich. Der jetzt vorliegende Teilband I enthält den Kommentar zu allen im Textband gedruckten Gedichten, die Teilbände II und III werden den Kommentar zu den Versepen und dem Anhang enthalten.
