Jacques Rivière, futur directeur de la N.R.F., Alain-Fournier, auteur du Grand Meaulnes, deux jeunes gens qui ne se séparent pas " la vie d'avec l'art ", comme l'a dit Francis Jammes. Tandis que se forment leur personnalité et leur amitié, on voit naître jà travers eux tous les grands mouvements qui vont marquer le siècle : le cubisme, le nouveau roman d'aventures, la musique avec l'appariton de Stravinski et du Sacre du Printemps. Publiée en 1926 par Isabelle Rivière, cette correspondance de 389 lettres est rééditée pour la première fois dans sa version intégrale. De nombreuses notices et notes accompagnent le texte, ainsi que plusieurs indes, constituant un précieux instrument de travail. Les noms propres, réduits à des initiales dans l'ancienne édition, ont été rétablis. About the Author Jacques Rivière (1886-1925) assure le secrétariat de La NRF de 1911 à 1914, avant d'en être le directeur de 1919 à sa mort. Romancier (Aimée) et essayiste (De la sincérité envers soi-même, Rimbaud), il prend part à une nouvelle orientation de la critique et laisse une correspondance essentielle à la compréhension de la littérature de son temps, dialoguant avec Alain-Fournier, Gide, Claudel, Proust et Artaud.
