Nadia Léger était russe, peintre, communiste et milliardaire. Pour la première fois est présentée ici l'oeuvre méconnue de Nadia Léger, peintre magistral dont l'immense talent fut occulté par la célébrité de Fernand Léger, son mari, à qui elle a dédié sa vie. Elle est l'auteur d'une oeuvre percutante et d'une modernité remarquable. Elève de Strzeminski, de Malévitch, d'Ozenfant et de Léger, ses réalisations traversent les plus grands courants de peinture du XXe siècle, du suprématisme au cubisme jusqu'au réalisme socialiste des années 1950. Immigrée russe, Nadia Léger parle à peine français. Elle est communiste et pratique un militantisme acharné qui dérange. Nadia épouse Fernand Léger trois ans avant sa disparition. Elle aura été sa maitresse, sa collaboratrice, son assistante et la directrice de son atelier. Sa notoriété n'est pourtant due qu'à sa proximité avec Fernand Léger et non à son propre talent. Comment alors expliquer le décalage entre la renommée incontestable de Nadia Léger, figure majeure de la scène artistique parisienne et la confidentialité de son oeuvre ? Aucune étude d'ampleur n'avait encore été consacrée à la vie de cette artiste capitale du XXe siècle. Cet ouvrage se propose enfin de réparer cette injustice.
