Description
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, which is marked by the formation of abnormal skin or skin patches that are red, dry, scaly and itchy. It varies in severity from skin formations in small, localized areas to complete body coverage. It can be of various types, such as plaque, inverse, guttate, pustular and erythrodermic psoriasis. It is considered to be a non-contagious genetic disease. It can be triggered by environmental factors or injury to the skin. There is no known cure for psoriasis, but certain measures can be taken for the control of symptoms, such as using immune system suppressing medications, steroid and vitamin D3 creams, and ultraviolet light exposure. Patients with psoriasis are at a high risk of developing psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, lymphomas and depression. The objective of this book is to give a general view of psoriasis, its concerns and challenges.
