The contributions to this volume approach the topic of modern teachers from various geographical and contextual perspectives, discussing the challenges facing teachers from educational, cultural, socio-political, demographic, and economic points of view. About the Author Dr K. G. Karras is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Primary Teachers’ Education at the University of Crete, Greece, where he is also the Director of the International Education and Research Arweiller Centre. His research interests are teacher education, and in-service education and training, and he adopts an historical-comparative perspective when investigating these matters. His recent publications include International Handbook on Teachers’ Education Worldwide. Dr P. Calogiannakis is a Professor in the Department of Primary Teachers’ Education at the University of Crete, Greece. Her research interests concern comparative education, the globalization of education, and citizenship education. Her resent publications include Comparative Education (2015), and she is the President of the Teacher Training and In-Service Training Institution of Crete, under the auspices of the Ministry of Greek National Education. Dr C. C. Wolhuter is a Professor at the North West University, South Africa, and he is currently the President of SACHES (Southern African Comparative and History of Education Society). His research interests are related to historical and comparative studies in education. His publications include International Handbook on Teachers’ Education Worldwide. Dr D. Kontogianni is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preschool Education at the University of Crete. Her research interests focus on intercultural pedagogy, migration, bilingual education, and Greek-language education in the diaspora. She is a Scientific Fellow in the research program “Greek-Language Primary and Secondary Intercultural Education in the Diaspora”, organised by the Centre for Intercultural and Migration Studies at the University of Crete.
