Description

Product Description The automotive industry is transforming to a greater degree than has occurred since Henry Ford introduced mass production of the automobile with the Model T in 1913. Advances in computing, data processing, and artificial intelligence (deep learning in particular) are driving the development of new levels of automation that will impact all aspects of our lives including our vehicles. What are Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs)? What are the underlying technologies that need to mature and converge for them to be widely deployed? Fundamentals of Connected and Automated Vehicles is written to answer these questions, educating the reader with the information required to make informed predictions of how and when CAVs will impact their lives. Topics covered include: History of Connected and Automated Vehicles, Localization, Connectivity, Sensor and Actuator Hardware, Computer Vision, Sensor Fusion, Path Planning and Motion Control, Verification and Validation, and Outlook for future of CAVs. About the Author Dr. Jeffrey Wishart is the lead author of this book. He is a Science Foundation of Arizona Fellow and VP of Innovation - Mobility at the Arizona Commerce Authority, as well as Adjunct Professor in Automotive Systems of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. Dr. Wishart conducts research and development in the areas of energy and advanced transportation, including advanced powertrains, connected and automated vehicles, electric vehicle supply equipment, energy storage systems, and micro-mobility applications. Dr. Wishart is also the Chair of the Verification and Validation (V&V) Task Force under the On-Road Automated Driving (ORAD) SAE committee that is establishing standards for automated vehicles.A Canadian, Dr. Wishart has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems at the University of Victoria, an M.Sc. in Engineering Physics from the University of Saskatchewan, and a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics (Mechanical Engineering Minor) from the University of British Columbia.Dr. Wishart and his co-authors are all Institute of Automated Mobility (IAM) collaborators:Dr. Yan ChenDr. Narayanan KidambiSteve ComoDr. Duo Lu andDr. Yezhou Yang
