Description
Product Description This companion provides broad and in-depth insights into family business in Asia and how Asian family firms navigate in the digital economy. The first part of the book looks at key concepts of family business while the second part presents Asian family firms’ cases from Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and other Asian economies. This comprehensive reference will help readers understand how family firms in Asia compete and survive in the world market especially in the digital age and why and how Asian economies can emerge as one of the most dynamic regions in the world. Review "This book offers a wide coverage of the main aspects related to family business in Asia. It incorporates an appraisal of general concepts, as well as detailed case studies of 14 countries of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Given the importance of family business in the development of Asian economies, and the extent and quality of the contributions, the different experiences reviewed along the book can provide relevant lessons for other countries, both developed and emergent." Professor Oscar Bajo-Rubio, University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain "There is little doubt that the 21st century is going to be Asian. Asia is a wildly diverse, dynamic and complex business landscape and largely driven by family businesses. Academics and practitioners need a clear guide to navigate this complex landscape. The new Routledge Companion on Asian Family Business edited by long-time experts Professors Yan and Yu is a critical guide to not only understand but also engage effectively with Asian family businesses." Professor Mark Greeven, IMD Business School, Switzerland "Vibrant family business is definitely one of the driving forces for the prominent economic performance in Asia. This timely book explores the uniqueness of family business across Asia in the era of socio-technical transition. Public policy makers, business leaders, and academic practitioners could all gain critical lessons from the related concepts and distinct cases." Professor Mei-Chih Hu, Tsing Hua University, Taiwan "With the gravity of the world economy being shifted toward Asia, this book is timely with its touch on broad issues of family business governance and case studies of different Asian countries, and it proffers a useful guide for practitioners and researchers to expand their career horizon." Emeritus Professor Fangqi Xu, Kindai University, Japan "The family business has been a dominant form of corporate governance in the Asian business history, and this book is an ambitious magnum opus, approaching the heart of the Asian economy. A global team of scholars and experts, led by Professors Yan and Yu, provides a dynamic realm of the most current knowledge within Asia and across Asia and the world. Every reader will earn insightful guidance for both research and praxis from every chapter of this essential handbook." Professor Eugene K. Choi, Ritsumeikan University, Japan About the Author Ho-Don Yan is a Professor at the Department of Economics, Feng Chia University, Taiwan.
