Description

Nanocarriers for the Delivery of Combination Drugs focuses on the role of nanocarriers in the delivery of combination drugs for the management and treatment of various diseases. Nanocarriers belonging to the category of polymeric nanoparticles, dendrimers, lipidic nanocarriers (like nanoemulsions), liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers are now being used in the drug delivery of combination drugs. This book helps readers assimilate all the information available surrounding the application of various nanocarrier technologies for the delivery of combination drugs of synthetic and natural origin, including small and large molecules. This is an important reference source for pharmaceutical scientists and biomaterials scientists who are looking to gain an increased understanding on how nanotechnology is improving the efficiency of combination drug delivery. Review Explores the role of nanocarriers as drug delivery agents for the delivery of combination drugs From the Back Cover Nanocarriers for the Delivery of Combination Drugs focuses on the role of nanocarriers in the delivery of combination drugs for the management and treatment of various diseases. Combination drug therapy success has been limited due to the inability of the individual drugs to achieve the desired therapeutic outcome when they are delivered in the individual form and reasons for this can be the difference in physiochemical and biopharmaceutical characteristics of drugs leading to variable results. Nanocarriers have been used for the co-delivery of drug combinations for delivering drugs at the right place and right time in combinations. Nanocarriers belonging to the category of polymeric nanoparticles, dendrimers, lipidic nanocarriers like nanoemulsions, liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, are now being used for drug delivery of combination drugs. The primary focus of Nanocarriers for the Delivery of Combination Drugs is to assimilate all the information available pertaining to the application of various nanocarrier technology for the delivery of combination drugs of synthetic and natural origin and encompassing small and large molecules. It is an important reference source for pharmaceutical scientists and biomaterials scientists, who are looking to gain an increased understanding of how nanotechnology is improving the efficiency of combination drug delivery. About the Author Prof. Sanjula Baboota passed her Bachelors and Masters in Pharmacy with distinction from the School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard in 1993 and 1995 respectively. She was a gold medallist in her post graduate programme. She earned her Ph. D. in the year 2002 from Jamia Hamdard. She is presently working as Professor at Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard. She has a total experience of about 25 years in teaching, research and mentoring. Prof. Sanjula teaches at undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels and has also prepared e-content for postgraduate students on subjects like biopharmaceutics and cosmetics. Her research interests include improving oral bioavailability of BCS class II and Class IV drugs using approaches like complexation, polymeric conjugates, lipid based systems like microemulsions, nanoemulsions, solid lipid nanoparticles and nanostructured lipid carriers. She is actively involved in formulating nanoparticulate drug delivery systems for treatment of neurological disorders and cancer. Recently the research group of Prof. Baboota has expanded their research on formulating nanocarriers of combination drugs as combination drug therapy provides additive or synergistic effect, increases the spectrum of treatment, reduces the side effects, helps in overcoming the resistance, improves patient compliance and targets multiple pathways taking part in disease progression.
