Description

The Formation of the Hebrew Bible presents David Carr's comprehensive rethinking of methods and historical approaches to understanding how the Hebrew Bible developed into its current form. Building on his earlier work Writing on the Tablet of the Heart, Carr explores both the possibilities and limitations of reconstructing pre-stages of the biblical text. He advocates for a methodologically modest investigation that draws on criteria and models derived from documented examples of textual revision found throughout the Ancient Near East. This scholarly work offers a fresh perspective on biblical formation, combining rigorous academic analysis with careful consideration of what can and cannot be reliably determined about the Bible's textual history. Ideal for scholars, students of biblical studies, and those interested in Old Testament research and commentary.
