It utilizes the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, which delivers fast and accurate autofocus for both still photography and video work. Photographers can also take advantage of a significantly improved minimum object distance (MOD). The wide end MOD is now shortened to 0.3m (11.8in) from the previous 0.85m (33.5in), offering new ways to express creativity through close-up shots.
