Description

Explore the foundational ideologies of Zoroastrianism through this scholarly examination of the da va cult's role in shaping one of the world's oldest religions. This book argues that opposition to the ancient Indo-Iranian da va gods directly led to the development of Zoroastrianism's two central doctrines: cosmic dualism and eschatology, which address the fate of the soul after death and its passage to the other world. By analysing the G th s-the oldest section of the Zoroastrian sacred text, the Avesta-the author reveals how the poet condemned the da va cult's eschatological claims as deception, fundamentally transforming religious thought in ancient Iran. This critical examination of various theories provides essential context for understanding how early Zoroastrian theology emerged from religious conflict and doctrinal innovation, making it invaluable for scholars, students, and anyone interested in comparative religion, Iranian history, and the intellectual foundations of monotheistic thought.
