Description

Explore the history of book collecting with Libraries, Books, and Collectors of Texts, 1600-1900. Part of the Routledge Studies in Cultural History series, this volume examines the social dimensions of gathering printed and handwritten texts. Contributors analyze how collectors shaped European public and private collections during the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and modern eras. This study investigates the networks that built transcontinental collections and the impact of geographical location and class on text acquisition. By looking at specific cultural contexts, the book details how the gathering and use of printed artifacts evolved over three centuries.
