Description
This foundational volume from Routledge examines core principles of historical study and research methodology for students and aspiring historians. Originally published in 1928, the work addresses fundamental questions of impartiality and objectivity in historical scholarship, establishing essential standards for rigorous academic inquiry. The text provides practical guidance on skills every historian must master, including competency in foreign languages, effective use of primary and secondary sources, and systematic note-taking practices. Designed for those embarking on serious historical research, this book bridges the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application, offering readers the conceptual framework and technical skills necessary to conduct credible historical investigations. Part of the Routledge Library Editions: Historiography series, it remains a valuable reference for understanding how historians approach evidence, construct arguments, and maintain scholarly integrity in their work.
