Description

Philippine Ancestral Gold is a full-colour publication featuring over 1,000 gold objects recovered in the Philippines between the 1960s and 1981, now housed in the Ayala Museum collection in Manila. This comprehensive volume showcases treasures discovered alongside tenth-to-twelfth century Chinese export ceramics, revealing the sophisticated trade networks and cultural connections that linked Southeast Asian civilisations before Western contact. The artefacts represent adornments of elite individuals and demonstrate regional affinities through formal similarities with objects from neighbouring cultures. Published by NUS Press, this richly illustrated book provides invaluable insight into Philippine cultural heritage and the craftsmanship of ancestral metalworkers whose gold works remain among Asia's most significant archaeological discoveries.
